This expands on my video commentary (Jim) .. especially the pros and cons list. Personally, I like this little camera, as a convenience item ... I consider myself a professional, with a half dozen pro-level cameras and years of experience and happy customers. I put a premium on quality. This camera does not compare ... BUT, I don't want to take one of those pro cameras on a family cruise, or in a backpack, unless there is a paycheck, or drop-dead glamorous subject for my creative amusement. And I'd like to converge the stills and video into one device. So, this cheapo Aiptek is the 'Bic' of pocketcameras ... and with HD, it's currently the top of their cheapo line. The amazing thing is the decent quality of 8MP stills. A little Photoshop work for saturation and sharpness, and they stand up pretty well for prints and the web. The SD chip is very convenient ... just shove it in the laptop and download digital still or video files. No tape transfers. Whew, I like that. Of course the video is compressed to .MOV files, but not bad quality and editable ... especially the HD files. So, I use that quality when possible, but web video gets reduced to 320x240 anyway ... so the SD video stands up nicely ... and takes up less space than HD. My big complaint about this camera is the mic sound, and the battery life ... in that order. I can buy more cheap batteries online ($6 to $12 for NP-60's), but I can't improve the audio, much. Again, a decent video or sound program helps to edit these into tolerable tracks ... but I would tend to avoid lip-synch videos for travel films. A little post-narration or music, and it's all I need. Narrating while shooting works OK, but practice to optimize the distance and avoid distortion or weak signal ... 20 inches is about max. And buy a small tripod ... these things have no image stabilizer, and hand-held video is deadly. Stills are OK handheld outdoors and with flash indoors. But, flash sucks battery big-time. Careful of bright lights ... there's no lens coating, so it's easy to get flares. What do you want for $129? Aiptek is coming out for xmas with a similar HD pocket camera .. but it looks nearly identical to the A-HD model, with some bells and whistles that are marginally useful. Save the $110 premium for this and buy the cheapo model if you need a pocket or purse cam.

I researched the DXG, it,s a 5.0 Mp Digital camocorder with mulitifunctionality. it can serve as a flash drive, still camera, video camera, mp3 player and voice recorder. Although lookin at this Aiptek, i think your's a better buy.

I believe the camera is great for a starter but it's not good for people have experience with camcorders. I found the Canon ZR800 to be a better camera because it has more features like optical zoom. It's a little more pricey at $299.95 but it's worth it.

It's an overall good camera, well for the price at least. I once owned an Aiptek and just used it for the music player really. I compared a camera to yours, and mine was a Hi8 camera. To make a long story short, your camera is way better!! The Sony Hi8 Handycam Camcorder doesnt take still pics, doesnt have a music player, and still is compatible with a VCR, a dead technology. In my opinion, this camera is way better than others may think.

In my opinion I still believe your camera is a good one. But if you don't think so, I like the DXG technology digital video camera because it is so versatile. It has six functions in one camera. It is a digital still camera, digital camcorder, MP3 player, pc camera, voice recorder and storage device. You mentioned that the resolution on your camera wasn't up to par, but on my camera I think it is because it has 5 megapixels is good for prints or enlargements.

It is a good camera. I have a JVC GR-D70. It has much longer batteries and a 16x9view mode. It has a much larger CCD than the Apitek so I think the JVC is better, but for the money, the apitek wins on features.

I really enjoyed how you charted the pros and cons of this camcorder. It was very informative and I appreciate the examples given about travel. I really like this camcorder. I think for a college student like myself (on a tight budget.. I might add) it is perfect. I did some research on a Canon DC 100 and it ranges from $260.00 to $280.00. I liked that it can be recorded to DVD, but the sd chip seems more convenient for an on the go college student who is always on her laptop. Plus, I love that it's only $129.00. wow! Thanks for the info.

WELL I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAMERA IS A GOOD ONE TO USE. HOWEVER, I RESEARCHED ANOTHER CAMERA THAT HAS, TO ME MORE FEATURES AND IS SMALL AS WELL. THE CANON CAMCORDER INCLUDES A VIDEO BAG AND TRIPOD FOR STABILITY AND PROTECTION FOR OUTDOORS. I FEEL THAT BOTH ARE VERY COMPACT IN SIZE BUT THE CANON CAMCORDER HAS A BUILT IN LENS SHIELD AND MANY DIFFERENT SHOOTING PROGRAMS LIKE NIGHT MODE, BEACH, SUNSET AND MORE. THEY BOTH ARE GREAT CAMERAS, BUT FOR THE MOS PART, THE CANON CAMCORDER IS A BETTER CHOICE.

I think that this camera is a very good deal compared to the camera that I have. I have the Panasonic VDR-D300. My camera is not a pocket camera at all. Aiptek is a pocket handy camera, my camera is not as light and easy to carry around. My camera costs a lot more. It does not come with a photo shop and it doesnt explain the audio on the camera which is very important. This is a very good deal for a camera and it gives great detail aboout it. I would love to have this camera versus mine.

I like the APITEK 720P. But I also did research on the Samsung SC-DC 164 DVD camcorder. I think that the APITEK has the edge because it has 8 megapixels of memory still resolution. That's a lot of memory. The Samsung has .48 memory, and it also has 5.1 surround sound audio format. I love that it captures sound well but the price of the APITEK has the Samsung beat tremendously 120-289.
